WP#2 revised

Illegal immigration has become a controversial issue in the United States over the past couple of years. Politicians and citizens alike have had many concerns with immigrants coming into the country and taking jobs and money. Some of these concerns Americans have is illegal immigrants coming into American and taking jobs away from citizens. They are also concerned about illegal immigrants taking benefits away from citizens like welfare. Immigrants also use government money that is meant to help those in need. I found several articles that will help me find answers to how immigrants are affecting the United States.

Colorado Allience for Immigration Reform. (2007). <http://www.cairco.org/edu/education.html>. (July 16, 2007).

This website starts out by giving facts about Colorado’s school systems and how many children of illegal immigrants are going to school. The Colorado Alliance for Immigration Reform (CAIR) has been organized to help with the problem with the schools sometimes having too many children attending due to the fact that illegal children or children of illegal immigrants are attending school there. This is a creditable website because it is researched facts by the organization. It also has were people can donate to the cause.

"Cost of Educating Illegal Alien Children in the US?" (2007). <http://www.couplescompany.com/Features/Politics/schoolbudgets.htm>. (July 16, 2007).

I have never thought about how much money the country spends annually to have children of illegal aliens enrolled in schools. This article also gives a list of the dollars each individual state spends annually. Arizona alone spends over one hundred eighty-six thousand dollars. This answers my research question because one of the things I am researching is how the public schools are affected by illegal immigrants. Each year organizations research how much money schools use and this author did his own research and calculated how much each state spent last year.

"Illegal Licensing." (March 2007). American City and County. (July 22, 2007).

This article discusses the opinions of people on whether or not illegal immigrants should be able to get their drivers license. I chose this article because it shows how people feel about immigrants getting something that we as Americans take for granted. It may not be creditable because it is just opinions.

Gonzales, D. (2007). “Immigrants May Flee to Other States.” The Arizona Republic. . (July 12, 2007).

This article discussed the opinions of illegal immigrants about the new law in Arizona. Some individuals think that the answer to their problems may be solved by simply moving to another state. This article is a little bias because it does only talk about one side. However, for my paper it is important because it gives my research more angles. I do not want to only have one side represented. This article helps my paper because it shows how the law is affecting illegal immigrants. This article may or may not be creditable considering how you look at it. It is not really researched but it does take people’s opinions on what they are going to do if or when this law goes into effect.

Holstege, S. (2007). “Next Hurdle: Enforce New Law.” Arizona Republic. . (July 10, 2007).

Arizona politicians have passed a law that will go into effect on January 1st. This law states if it can be proven that a business is hiring illegal immigrants to work for them then they may lose their business license. This license can only be lost if the business knowingly hired illegal immigrants more than once. The new problem that now faces officials is how to enforce this law legally. This answers my question because I want to know what the United States is doing to find a solution to our immigration problem. This article is creditable because it is stating the facts of the new law that is going to be in effect.

Jacoby, T. (2006). "Immigration Nation." Foreign Affairs. 50-65. (July 8, 2007).

This article discusses the future finances of Americans. Illegal immigrants put a strain on society and it is going to be even harder when the baby boomers get ready to retire. There is not going to be enough money for everybody. This article is a little difficult for me to decide whether it is creditable or not. No one really knows what the future is going to be like. So we are just going on how trends are right now and if they stay the same then this is how the future is going to look. But this article gives me ideas for what could happen in America.

Wipf, J. and P. (2007). "Should Illegal Immigrant Children & Teenagers Be Educated in the U.S.?" <http://immigration.about.com/od/ussocialeconomicissues/i/EduIllegalIss.htm>. (July 16, 2007).

This article discusses whether or not children and teenagers of illegal immigrants should be allowed to attend schools. The authors also give a background on the different laws that have been passed over the years. This article also gives an argument for and against having immigrant’s children in the schools as well as having President George W. Bush and the Democrats. This article has potential of being biased because it mostly talks about why immigrants’ children should not be enrolled in schools. This article helps my research question because one of my questions is about schools.

There are so many different articles that show both points of view on the subject. However, I have chosen these articles as well as several others.

Reflection Cover Letter

This class was so different than any online class I have taken before. It really took me a little while to get everything where I was confident and fully understood what I was supposed to be doing which was around the third deadline. I have only taken classes on Web-CT but I like new experiences and challenges.
I have waited a little longer in my college career to take this English class so some of this was just a refresher for me. One thing that I did learn was how to better sort through my research. Normally I would just go through and pick just about everything I found on a subject. Each deadline helped me with this because I had to find at three or four new articles. Through this class, I learned how to narrow my subject more before I actually go and research it. This also helps me manage my time online because I know exactly what I’m researching.
Another thing that I improved on was my citations. I do not like them because sometimes I cannot find what the MLA book is asking for then I do them incorrect. I also love how we peer reviewed each others’ work. This makes us stronger proofreaders as well as letting a fresh set of eyes read our papers to make sure everything makes sense.
Even though the class is just about over, I still need to continue to work on everything I already mentioned. We never stop learning and there is always something that we can continue to improve on. I am never going to be the perfect writer so I must strive to be as close to perfect as I can be.

D#4-8 Deadline Reflection

I like putting our articles all on one page where all we have to do is go there, click and it just pulls everything up. It makes having tons of copies laying around nonexistant. It just really simplifies life.

I responded to Kelsia (https://www.blogger.com/comment.g?blogID=7065969429572983940&postID=5303259624338326963), Tomoko (https://www.blogger.com/comment.g?blogID=3852952449052242174&postID=5318233787967077799), Amanda (https://www.blogger.com/comment.g?blogID=5963863000427860073&postID=470612361029145020), Jason (https://www.blogger.com/comment.g?blogID=2848283987846070990&postID=1107359670636690283), and Noe (https://www.blogger.com/comment.g?blogID=4597331709966523187&postID=4938227981979816786).

D#4-1 Reading Reflection

I really like peer reviews. Sometimes when I read through my own paper, I know that I tend to put words in or read it how I want it to sound. When someone else reads it, they can tell whether or not it makes sense. The website really helped me to understand what I am supposed to do when reading my classmates papers.

D#1-1 Reading Reflection

When reading through the syllabus, it looks like a lot of work but its broken down into workable sections. Also I think the book is going be a lot of help (which it already has). It is really easy to understand.

D#12-3 WP Reflection

It was a lot easier to revise this WP. Turnitin.com has not put a percent yet but the first time it was at zero so I guess we'll see what happens.

D#11-5 Deadline Reflection

When looking at everyone else's WP#3, I saw what I needed to do to fix mine. It really helps to see someone elses work as an example. We tend to learn just as much from each other as we do from our professors.
