D#4-8 Deadline Reflection

I like putting our articles all on one page where all we have to do is go there, click and it just pulls everything up. It makes having tons of copies laying around nonexistant. It just really simplifies life.

I responded to Kelsia (https://www.blogger.com/comment.g?blogID=7065969429572983940&postID=5303259624338326963), Tomoko (https://www.blogger.com/comment.g?blogID=3852952449052242174&postID=5318233787967077799), Amanda (https://www.blogger.com/comment.g?blogID=5963863000427860073&postID=470612361029145020), Jason (https://www.blogger.com/comment.g?blogID=2848283987846070990&postID=1107359670636690283), and Noe (https://www.blogger.com/comment.g?blogID=4597331709966523187&postID=4938227981979816786).

D#4-1 Reading Reflection

I really like peer reviews. Sometimes when I read through my own paper, I know that I tend to put words in or read it how I want it to sound. When someone else reads it, they can tell whether or not it makes sense. The website really helped me to understand what I am supposed to do when reading my classmates papers.

D#1-1 Reading Reflection

When reading through the syllabus, it looks like a lot of work but its broken down into workable sections. Also I think the book is going be a lot of help (which it already has). It is really easy to understand.

D#12-3 WP Reflection

It was a lot easier to revise this WP. Turnitin.com has not put a percent yet but the first time it was at zero so I guess we'll see what happens.

D#11-5 Deadline Reflection

When looking at everyone else's WP#3, I saw what I needed to do to fix mine. It really helps to see someone elses work as an example. We tend to learn just as much from each other as we do from our professors.

WP# 3 revised

WP #3

Walk up to any American citizen and ask them what they think about illegal immigration and they will willingly give you their opinions. Most opinions range from immigrants just need to go back to the country they came from and stop stealing our jobs to some actually having welcoming arms. However, those who actually welcome illegal immigrants are far and few between. But how are American citizens and the United States suffering with so many illegal immigrants coming into the country?
One of the first things that come to mind when discussing illegal immigration is taking jobs away from American citizens. There are between ten to twelve million illegal immigrants in the US. Illegal immigrants are interviewing for jobs right along side American citizens and then they are getting the job over the citizens. However, citizens already have a big advantage over the illegal immigrants. Citizens already have social security number which is a necessity when getting a job. Also some jobs now are requiring a high school diploma. This forces immigrants to do contract labor such as gardening or house cleaning. These jobs do not pay as well but they do bring money home to their families. Some immigrants send money back home. Right now the amount sent back home to Mexico is $34,591,197,968 and rising (immigrant counter). Since that money is being sent out of the country instead of staying and being circulated throughout the system. This makes less money available in the United States. However, looking at it from the immigrants’ view, day labor is not safe work. Day laborers are also mistreated and suffer abuse. They experience nonpayment as well as being denied food and water breaks (Valenzuela). Because some immigrants are undocumented they are unable to receive worker’s compensation. This means that they must pay for everything out of pocket. They also do not receive any money for days of work they missed (Query).
Another thing that can be seen as a benefit is children of illegal immigrants are attending public schools sometimes when they still live in Mexico. Public schools are funded by the government and use money from taxes to be able to keep their doors open. When immigrants do not pay taxes this more or less means their children are getting a “free” education. In Arizona alone, taxpayers pay 186,962,600 dollars a year. As a country we are spending 7.4 billion dollars to educate children of illegal immigrants. “That’s enough money to put a computer on the desk of every junior high school student in America” (Cost of Educating). In Georgia the annual cost is about 181 million dollars. If this money was not spent on immigrants’ children it could employ one thousand six hundred teachers’ jobs that had been laid off as well as paying additional three thousand eight hundred seventy-three teachers (Cost of Educating). Those who pay taxes even if they do not have children or children in public school still must pay the school taxes. But if someone is not paying those taxes then it puts a strain on the society. This forces taxes to increase to help get more money into the system as well as costing our children a good education. At the college, level illegal immigrants do not have social security numbers they should not be able to attend college. However, states are allowing illegal immigrants to attend college while paying in-state tuition costs under the revised DREAM Act in 2003. This also allows certain students to obtain permanent legal status if they prove themselves through college, military or community service. However, this causes the cost of tuition to increase as well making it harder for students to get financial aid.
In some instances illegal immigrants are taking opportunities and benefits away from American citizens. The United States cannot handle the stress it is putting on society much longer. A resolution needs to be found.

D#11-4 Peer Review Reflection

I looked at Tegan's paper and Oscar's paper. They both had really good starts. They made me realize what I did wrong with my paper.

D#10-1 Reading Reflection

One of the hardest things for me is a works cited page. MLA and APA does things differently and sometimes I get them confused. The chapter on citing really helped me to figure things out.

D#9-7 Deadline Reflection

I responded to Jessica (https://www.blogger.com/comment.g?blogID=6558461562694940043&postID=814797845208466088), Tegan (https://www.blogger.com/comment.g?blogID=4800690282846106522&postID=4442043505552149447), Alexis (https://www.blogger.com/comment.g?blogID=6493157121155563592&postID=25809251633574933), Shawn (https://www.blogger.com/comment.g?blogID=2848283987846070990&postID=3768736426782834074), and Amanda (https://www.blogger.com/comment.g?blogID=5963863000427860073&postID=8152340537456289693).

D#9-6 Outline

Project Claim: Illegal immigrants reap benefits from American citizens

Reason #1: Illegal immigrants take jobs away from American citizens

Warrent/Principle: Illegal immigrants are applying for jobs beside American citizens and then getting the job.

Backing: Some people might disagree with this statement because some jobs require a high school diploma or a college degree.

Evidence #1: There are millions of immigrants that come to the US each year looking for work.

Warrent/Principle: In the US, illegal immigrants can come and find work to make more money for themselves and their families.

Backing: Since January 2006, $34,591,197,968 has been sent to Mexico from illegal immigrants working in the US.

Rebuttal: Illegal immigrants apply for jobs that American citizens would not apply for like gardner or janitor.

Reason #2: Illegal immigrants children attend schools

Warrent/Principle: Children of illegal immigrants are using taxpayers money to go to school.

Backing: States spend thousand of dollars on books, desks, and other expenses.

Backing: Money that schools use come from the government which in turn is paid by taxes which illegal immigrants do not pay.

D#9-5 Chapter 8

Timelines are very important with my paper. If I chose an article that talked about Chinese immigration in the early 1900's, this would not have much relevance to my research now except for creating a pattern or history. I need to find sources that have been researched within the past ten years or even earlier.

When evaluating my research, time comes up again. The information must be "contemporary" according to chapter 8. The recent information must be relevant as well as persuasive. Historic information also may be relevant but I'm not sure how useful it would be for my research.

When evaluating reseach, it cannot all be looked at in the same way. For example, I would not use the same criteria to evaluate an interview that is mostly opinions and a scholarly article that presents the facts.

One thing that caught my attention in the matching reasons with evidences discusses thinking about what you're writing and not sitting down and blindly writting. I usually sit down and blindly write. But this made me think and actually sit down and type out a list with a reasons side and an evidence side. I then wrote one reason and then matched the evidence to that reason.

Then I did a little bit of an outline and figured out where I wanted what information. My first outline was very messy with things scratched out and moved around. But it is much easier to do it now instead of moving things around after I have typed it.

D#9-4 Biblography

Author Unknown. (March 2007). "Illegal Licensing." American City and County.
This article discusses the opinions of different people regarding whether or not illegal immigrants should be able to get a driver's license.

Author Unknown. (February 2007). "Illegal Immigrants." American City and County. In California, police officers are now being trained in illegal immigrant laws. Some officers are against this because they say it take away from their abilities to solve local crimes.

Bergsman, S. (June 2006). "Banks are Quietly Wooing Undocumented Immigrants." United States Banker.
Banks are giving loans to illegal immigrants. These loans are used to buy houses.

D#9-3 WP Reflection

When looking at everyone's comments (thank you!) it really made me think about different things. There were a lot of different questions that I had not thought about. This is one reason why I like to have different people look at my paper before I turn it in. Also they are able to see my paper with different eyes and can tell me when I don't make sense.

D#9-1 Reading Reflection

When reading chapter 8, one thing that made me think was if my audience has a well informed opinion about my topic. Almost everybody has an opinion when it comes to immigration. Everybody's may not be well informed but that is one thing that I hopefully will change with my research. I want to be able show people both sides of the issue.

D#8-5 Deadline Reflection

This deadline seemed very short in comparison to other deadlines we have done. The chapters were really helpful when I sat down and really took the time to read them.

I responded to Kelsia (https://www.blogger.com/comment.g?blogID=7065969429572983940&postID=6463733929678719909), Jessica (https://www.blogger.com/comment.g?blogID=6558461562694940043&postID=2411449673151715666), and Oscar (https://www.blogger.com/comment.g?blogID=7787602031825194497&postID=3454189904875923525).

D#8-3 Chapter 7

One thing that helped me was reading the Generating Responses to Your Research Question. The first two steps was to write your research question down and write down everything you know about the subject. This really helped me because usually I just research and write. I don't really look at everything in a way of what I have learned.

The second activity that helped me was drafting a thesis statement. I cannot really remember when I learned what a thesis statement was but I know it wasn't until I had been in college for a couple years and it wasn't in a classroom. I normally have a hard time developing a thesis statement and when I write one usually just developes.

The third activity was ethos, logos, and pathos. the ethos category appeals to credibility and authority. In my reseach, this would be those who are well educated on the subject. This does not always include politicians who may be subject to lobbiest opionions. The logos category appeals to reason and logic and the pathos category appeals to emotions. I think the pathos category may have the most to deal with my paper because the issue of immigration has to deal more with people's emotions than logic or reason. If we really thing about the job issue, are illegal immigrants taking the jobs that we want? No, they are doing jobs that most Americans wouldn't even consider doing.

The fourth activity talked about rebuttals. My paper cannot just be one sided, it has to have both sides. However, it cannot have research that is not crediable. Both sides most be just as stong.

The fifth activity discusses identifying qualifiers. I cannot say that all Americans believe illegal immigrants should be sent back to their home country. I need to have correct statistics in every aspect.

D#8-1 Peer Review Reflection

First I looked at Jessica's paper about abstinence only sex education. She has a really good start on her paper. There were a couple things that she needs to change but she has researched her paper very well.

I also looked at Kelsia's paper. She has a very well written paper and it looks like she knows what she is going to do with the research she has collected. I didn't really find anything that she needed to change.

D#7-6 Deadline Reflection

I'm still having problems getting to the articles I saved. The database says its doing maintaince but it has said that for about three days. Hopefully it will be up and running again so I can do the final WP#2.

I responded to Jessica (https://www.blogger.com/comment.g?blogID=6558461562694940043&postID=8046133946005890419), Kelsia (https://www.blogger.com/comment.g?blogID=7065969429572983940&postID=6876666267552668086), Shawn (https://www.blogger.com/comment.g?blogID=2848283987846070990&postID=4601862579722218038), Amanda (https://www.blogger.com/comment.g?blogID=5963863000427860073&postID=3410731627285525917), and Tomoko (https://www.blogger.com/comment.g?blogID=3852952449052242174&postID=5559640828396722925).

D#7-3

For my paper, I think it would be beneficial to have graphs and perhaps other visuals to help my readers better understand the point. I also think graphs would help readers understand how the data really impacts our country.

D#7-2 Bibliography

Author Unknown. (2007). "Cost of Educating Illegal Alien Children in the US?" <http://www.couplescompany.com/Features/Politics/schoolbudgets.htm>.

This article gives the amounts that states spend annually to educate the children of illegal immigrants.

D#7-1 Reading reflection

When I have written papers before it was all text. When there are visuals in a paper, I think it makes the paper more interesting to read. It also makes the information easier to understand.

D#6-11 Deadline Reflection

I can't believe how fast time is going and how much we have already gotten finished. I didn't think that I would be able to make it.

I responded to http://swivan78.blogspot.com/, https://www.blogger.com/comment.g?blogID=4597331709966523187&postID=8773235584470768782, https://www.blogger.com/comment.g?blogID=7065969429572983940&postID=5561176399823167508, https://www.blogger.com/comment.g?blogID=5963863000427860073&postID=6253737824083063809, and https://www.blogger.com/comment.g?blogID=3852952449052242174&postID=2511560249079457121.

D#6-9 Checklist

Immigrants may flee to other states

1. Are the writers point supported by primarily by fact or by opinion? Does the write present an opinion as a fact?
This is more of an opinion based article because the authors is stating what he thinks may happen according to what immigrants have told him.

2. Does the writer offer supporting evidence for his or her statement?
Yes, he interviews immigrants and asks what they are going to do because of the new law.

3. What kind of evidence is provided? How convincing is it?
The evidence is obtained by interviews. It is convincing because it is the opinions of people who are effected by the new law.

4. Is the evidence accurate? Sufficient? Representitive? Relevant?
I believe it is to this article because it is stating what immigrants are going to do.

5. Does the writer display any bias? If so, is the bias revealed through tone or choice of evidence?
It is not bias because the author is stating other peoples opinions.

6. Does the writer omit a pertinent example?
No

7. Does the write present a silent picture of issues?
Yes, it gives the conditions that immigrants are working under even though they make ten dollars an hour.

8. Are any alternative viewpoints overlooked?
No because this article just talks about one side.

9. Are any visuals misleading?
Yes, because immigrants make ten dollars and hour and also one percent own houses makes it seem as if immigrants are living better lives than some Americans.

10. Does the writer use a valid reason?
Yes, it is showing Americans what options immigrants have.

11. Does the writer use logical fallacies?
No

12. Does the writer oversimplify the complex ideas?
No because newspapers are written at a lower level so all readers can read and understand the article.

13. Does the writer make reasonable inferences?
Yes

14. Does the writer represent the ideas of others actually? Fairly?
Yes those who are in his article are represented fairly.

D#6-6

Orginial paragraph: Colorado already passed a bill that requires employers to verify the legal status of workers. As a result, labor shortages in some industries that rely on immigrant workers were worsened this year, prompting officials in Colorado to contract with prison inmates to pick crops in some areas.

Paraphrasing: Other states like Colorado have already passed this bill. Employers must verify if their workers are either legal or illegal. This has already caused labor shortages. Colorado has tried to fix this problem by working with local prisons and using inmates for labor.

D#6-5

I chose the article by the "Arizona Republic" that was written by Sean Holstege. The purpose of this article is to entertain and inform his audience. His audience is those who will read the "Arizona Republic". I'm not really sure if anyone is affected by this article. Those who are affected by the law is the illegal immigrants who are trying to get jobs and the businesses who hire them.

D#6-4 Annotated Bibliography

Valenzuela Jr., A. (May/June 2007). "Immigrant Day Laborers: Myths and Realities." NACLA Report on the Americas.

This article goes into detail about the myths that Americans believe about immigrant laborers. This article does not only discuss the myths but also the realities that these immigrants actually live in.

Query, J. (Winter 2006). " Workers' Compensation for Undocumented Workers: A Discussion of the Regulatory Complexities." National Association of Insurance Commissioners.

This article discusses how undocumented workers do not have workers compensation. When they are injured, they must pay for everything and do not get any money for missed work days.

Haller, M. (December 2006). "Alien Hunter." Cincinnati Magazine.

This article tells one sheriff's story of how he is trying to keep illegal immigrants out of his town and county.

D#6-3 Writing Project Reflection

When I first started looking into this class, it looked like a lot of work. But as I finish the first writing project I have seen how each of the assignments has really helped me. If I were to redo this project, I would read deeper into each article. My reports at turnitin.com came back with 0%. This is a great accomplishment for me because I tend to use people's ideas but rephrase them with my own words. One thing that I tried to improve on was to research everything well first before I started writing anything. This was easier to do because the assignments were written to aid in this process.

D#6-1 Reading Reflection

I really found rhetorical reading interesting because it is something that I have trouble doing. I usually find myself reading through material almost as if I am skimming it. I also have trouble when I need to reread material. When I read a chapter again, I seem to pay less attention than I did the first time. This is a skill that I must work at and be more patient when I read material.

D#5-7 Search Terms

My first seach term is illegal immigration. But to narrow the seach; I am going to use the terms of benefits, jobs and public schools all under immigration heading. This is going to take time to really look into the articles and websites to filter out the information that I am not going to need.

D#5-6 Primary or Secondary Research

My research is going to be mostly secondary research. One way to get primary research is to actually interview a border patrol officer or a politician.

D#5-5 Personal Inventory

I think my personal inventory might be a biased one because I have my own beliefs about immigration. So I need to focus more on the facts so I can form a more accurate opinion.

D#5-10 Deadline Reflection

I had some problems getting my WP#1 up where everyone could see it but I think its fixed. Some of you did some input (thank you!).

I commented on Jessica's page (http://jlw324.blogspot.com/) as well as on Shawn's page (http://swivan78.blogspot.com/). I also commented on Amanda's page (http://amanda-intro.blogspot.com/2007/07/dl5-hw2.html), Kelesia's page (http://tedibaer2007.blogspot.com/2007/07/d4-hw5.html), and Noel's page (http://wwwmyfirstblogcom.blogspot.com/2007/07/d5hw3-peer-review-reflection.html).

This book looks into the lives of Mexicans who are here illegally.

(2002). "Trafficking in Persons." Washington D.C.: Department of Labor.

This book discusses the organizations that do not work with or through the government.

D#5-2 Peer Review

I peer reviewed Jason's paper about people wanting to always get the latest technology. I also read I think it was Daniel's paper about energy drinks.

D#5-1 Reading Reflection

The part of the reading that really helped me was the first website. I really found the article about the most common mistakes helpful. I am one that sometimes can get carried away with commas. I think it is such an easy thing to do. Most of us learned the correct way to write but over time have forgotten. This site really helped me to relearn some of those things.

D#4-5 Annotated Bibliography

Cadrain, D. (March 2007). "Immigration will be a hot issue for states." HR Magazine.

This article was found in Western's library under the database for business magazines and journals. It talks about what the country faces with immigration issues as well as what different states are doing to control it.

(Dec. 2006). "Texas town takes on illegal immigration." American City and County.

Farmers Branch, Texas goes farther than the federal goverment to protect their city from illegal immigrants.

D#3-8 Deadline Reflection

Things are getting easier. It didn't take me quite as long today as it did yesterday. lol!

I have commented on Jessica's page (http://jlw324.blogspot.com/), Kelesia's page(http://tedibaer2007.blogspot.com/), and Amanda's page (http://amanda-intro.blogspot.com/).

D#3-1 Reading Reflection

In the past, I have never really thought about what question I was trying to answer. I have found a topic and researched it then figure out how to blend my paper together where I flows correctly. By having a research question, I can better research my topic. The helps not only time wise but also with content. This is a concept I wish I could have learned earlier probably in high school.

D#3-7

Jacoby, T. (2006). "Immigration Nation." Foreign Affairs. 50-65.

I found this article, "Immigration Nation," by searching Western New Mexico University's online articles. This article is about what the goverment is doing to resolve the immigration in the US.

Hanson, G. (2002). "Does Border Enforcement Protect U.S. Workers from Illegal Immigration?". The Review of Economics and Statistics. 73-92.

This article was also found on WNMU's website under the Economics database. It is an article that discusses the economics of states that are on the US and Mexican Border.

Schuck, P. (1995). "The Message of 187 Facing Up to Illegal Immigration". American Prospect.

This article, "The Message of 187 Facing Up to Illegal Immigration," is about the law that is enforced in California. This article describes how California is trying to resolve their issue of immigration.

D#3-6

My research question is going to be what affect does illegal immigration have on the United States. The purpose is really for me to learn what is going on in our country. The context is just to inform people of the facts and well as learning them myself. The audience is an intended audience. I fit into the context because I am interested in this issue. I want to learn about how this issue affects me.

D#3-5

My audience is most likely going to be the intended audience. These are the people that I actually write the paper for. Targeting this audience will make the research paper touch more people. Those who read this are going to be reading it because it is an intrest to them.

D#3-4

I am not really sure what groups would use the information that I have researched. I think that political figures would use it as well as lobbyists to get their point across to lawmakers. Also the general public might be interested because this is information that affects the them in certain areas of the country. People would use this information to their advantage while trying to prove their stance pro or con.

D#3-3

I first got interested in this issue because I have been in classes where we would have debates or discussions that would take up whole class periods. I felt out of the loop because I did not know what was really going on. In these classes, my classmates had very stong opinions either one way or the other and I was more on the fence or did not care either way. Now that this has been an issue for a couple years, I only know what people have told me or what I have seen on the news which is not very much. One of the sites I found had a counter and it showed how much money was being sent out of the country. It was in the millions. I did not realize that it was going to be that much. The number was also going up by the second. My perspectives may be a little one sided because I am an American. I have not been really exposed to situations where illegal immigrants have cause me problems. I think that everyone has a right to go to a place where they are trying to make a better life for themselves. However, they should do it legally. People who come to the US from Mexico do jobs that we as Americans would not do. Then we look down on these people because they do yardwork or clean our house. But if these people did not have the jobs they did who would do it for us?

D#3-2

My research question is going to be what affect does illegal immigration have on the United States. I am going to focus on jobs and benefits that immigrants recieve when they are not legal citizens. I am also going to look at how much money is sent out of the country back home to their families.

D#2- 11 Deadline Reflection

Reading my classmates' blogs I read some really interesting things. It is really cool to see how we are given the same assignments but take them in different directions. The blogs I responded to were http://swivan78.blogspot.com/, http://amanda-intro.blogspot.com/, http://jcbloomeng102.blogspot.com/,and http://luscious602.blogspot.com/.

D#2-9

By using blog for research, my only concern is if the information is creditable. I think this type of research would be great if you were trying to get the public's opinion on an issue. However, when I used a search in some of the blogs in the chapter there were hits to articles in different newspapers. They ranged from the Pittsburgh Tribune to Phoenix news.com. By using these blogs to find different articles that are creditable.

D#2-8

First I thought about the issue of illegal immigration but I knew that this subject was going to be too broad. So then I began to think about what issues affect me. Since I am doing this assignment at home, I did not have anyone to discuss it with. So I began to look at the search engine Google and look at different things that came up when I typed in illegal immigration. After looking at several different subtopics I decided on how the United States is affected and what the government is doing to resolve this issue.

D#2-7

My topic is illegal immigration and the affects on the United States as well as what the government is doing to resolve this issue. I really did not use any of the tactics in the chapter because this is an issue that I am interested in learning more about. However the first thing I had to do was to narrow my search. Illegal immigration is such a large issue. One thing that is always in the news is how illegal immigrants are stealing our jobs but there is more to it than that. That is why I chose this topic.

D#2- 6

One thing that makes the issue of immigration so interesting is because it affects our area. I also think that it is interesting how Mexicans are the ones targeted. Granted they may be the majority of illegal immigrants however it affects everyone. I heard a conversation the other day about how the rich are the ones who are pushing these immigration laws. However, when immigrants are deported, their yardwork or housework does not get done. In our area, we are affected because it could be our friends and family that is getting deported.

D#2-5

My topic is going to be about illegal immigration. I am going to look into different aspects of how illegal immigrants have an impact on the United States as well as what the government is doing to help resolve this issue. This issue right not is one that is in the hot seat with the government and I am sure everyone in the country has heard about it and has their own opinions on it. I don't know if my research will have any impact on the real world. However it will help me to learn about what is really going on in the state I live in. This is a subject that does hit close to home because I go to school so close to the border.

D#2-4 Annotated Bibliography

My first article was published in the Arizona Republic. It is titled "Immigrants May Flee to Other States" and was written by Daniel Gonzalez. This article is about how illegal immigrants reacted to the law in Arizona dealing with businesses having to close when they have illegal immigrants employed.

The second article was also published in the Arizona Republic. It is titled "Next Hurdle: Enforce New Law". This is an article about how the new law in Arizona should be enforced. Just because this has become a law does not mean that there are ways to enforce it.

The third article was published in the Arizona Republic. It was written by Chelsea Scheider and titled "Human-smuggling Ring Busted." This is an article about Roman Robaina being arrested for helping illegal immigrants come into the United States. This man made millions by helping Mexicans come across the border.

D#2-10 Annotated Bibliography

I chose three different sites that I found online. The first one is the Center for Immigration Studies. This site can be found at http://www.cis.org/topics/illegalimmigration.html . I chose this site because it gives statistics on immigrants in the United States. I found this website and article by using the search engine Google. This is a respectable site because it is a organization who studies immigration in the United States.

I also bookmarked the index for the Center for Immigration Studies. I found this site by looking through the Illegal Immigration Counter website. This site has all the links to history and current news and events happening right now. This will be helpful because I can look at how immigration has shaped the United States.

The third site I bookmarked is Illegal Immigration Counters. This site also has statistics that are kept up to date. I also found this site by using Google. This site also has links to laws and other reports on immigration issues. This source is reliable because it is also an organization.

D#2-3 Reflecting on Prior Research

Like I have said before my prior research is just looking up the information and just writing the paper. There really is no technique to it. I have tried to use outline to help me organize my information; however, I have found that this does not help me. I do not have the patience to sit down and organize my information. I am the type of person that organizes as I go along. Also I do not have a plan when I look up infomation. I usually "google" different ideas for topics. When I find something that seems somewhat interesting then I research it in more detail.

Reading Reflection #2

Researching things is a part of everyday life which I did not realize. We research mostly everything from where is the best motel to stay at or which gas station has the cheapest gas. This chapter helps because it shows how to write a research paper. In the past I have always just looked up for information and then just sat down and wrote a paper. However, in my opinoin this chapter talked a little too much about how to research different things in life and not enough about how to actually research and write a paper.

When reading chapter three this topic is covered. I particuarly like how there is a table that breaks down the purpose, audience and context of the paper that is going to be written. Most of the time I do not consider these when I am writing. Also I do not connect the research to me. I normally do not pick subjects that I am interested in. I normally pick something that will get me enough information so I can get the paper finished.
