D#8-3 Chapter 7

One thing that helped me was reading the Generating Responses to Your Research Question. The first two steps was to write your research question down and write down everything you know about the subject. This really helped me because usually I just research and write. I don't really look at everything in a way of what I have learned.

The second activity that helped me was drafting a thesis statement. I cannot really remember when I learned what a thesis statement was but I know it wasn't until I had been in college for a couple years and it wasn't in a classroom. I normally have a hard time developing a thesis statement and when I write one usually just developes.

The third activity was ethos, logos, and pathos. the ethos category appeals to credibility and authority. In my reseach, this would be those who are well educated on the subject. This does not always include politicians who may be subject to lobbiest opionions. The logos category appeals to reason and logic and the pathos category appeals to emotions. I think the pathos category may have the most to deal with my paper because the issue of immigration has to deal more with people's emotions than logic or reason. If we really thing about the job issue, are illegal immigrants taking the jobs that we want? No, they are doing jobs that most Americans wouldn't even consider doing.

The fourth activity talked about rebuttals. My paper cannot just be one sided, it has to have both sides. However, it cannot have research that is not crediable. Both sides most be just as stong.

The fifth activity discusses identifying qualifiers. I cannot say that all Americans believe illegal immigrants should be sent back to their home country. I need to have correct statistics in every aspect.
